FNBB Appoints Mathews Phetogo As COO

FNBB has appointed Mathews Tito Phetogo as the bank's Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective January 1st, 2025.

Phetogo is a qualified Fellow Certified Chartered Accountant (FCCA) with over 20 years of experience, primarily in auditing and financial accounting. 

Some of his previous roles include with the Office of the Auditor General, Deloitte Botswana, the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA) and Orange Botswana.

He joined First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) as the Head of Finance, Risk, and Operations for Global Markets, overseeing finance, risk, and operations functions. 

He was later appointed Head of Operations at Rand Merchant Bank Botswana (RMB), where he led the bank’s strategic direction and operations, including foreign exchange payments (local and cross-border), real-time gross settlement (RTGS) payments, trade and working capital, and custodial services.

He also served as FNBB’s Deputy Chief Operating Officer (COO) and as the In-Country Payments Leader through the Bankers Association of Botswana.

"Beyond his executive roles, Mathews has held board memberships with Botswana Post and Boitekanelo Group, where he chaired the Finance and Audit Committees, respectively, "FNBB said.

"As a thought leader, he presented at the France Telecom (Orange) Finance Conference on mobile money in Africa, providing a case study on Botswana, and speaking at the Southern African Payments Conference hosted by Finnovex on digital payment innovations."
