After over a year, the solution to the Government Accounting & Budgeting System (GABS) is on the horizon. According to a savingram seen by BW TechZone, from Thursday, 12 December, to Monday, 16 December, there will be a switch over to a production environment, which will enable the system to work more efficiently.
GABS has been operating on a temporary hosting environment (Oracle Supercluster M7 Server) as engineers from Oracle and the government tried fixing issues which have plagued it since August 2023. The switch over to the Government-owned Production environment (Oracle Supercluster M-8 server) seems to suggest that much progress was made in that regard.
During the switchover, the system will completely be offline.
"It is envisaged that this switch-over will grant GABS more resources, which should result in improved performance and further allow Oracle engineers to continue to analyse and rectify issues that have been causing system instability," said Accountant General Kealeboga Molelowatladi.
GABS is an Oracle E-Business Suite solution comprising an automated premier financial system used to manage the execution of the government budget by processing financial transactions covering receipt of revenue, payment of suppliers and public officials as well as the compilation of Government financial accounts. The system, originally implemented in 2004, manages government employees' payroll, pensions as well as payments to supplies, among others.
