Starlink Is Now Available In Botswana

According to its website, Starlink has officially gone live in Botswana. It will cost P4,820 for the hardware, P314 for the shipping and P688 per month for the subscription to access the SpaceX-owned service. Shipment takes between 1 to 2 weeks.

Starlink uses a constellation of satellites in orbit to provide fast internet even in the most remote areas. In Botswana, it will compete with the likes of BTC, Mascom, Orange and other internet service providers (ISPs).

The service was licensed by BOCRA in May following President Masisi's engagement with Starlink executives in USA earlier in the year. Before that, Starlink's application had been pending for a year with BOCRA at one point banning the importation, sale and use of the service.

The services will provide an alternative for internet users in Botswana who have been complaining about the exorbitantly priced but poor quality of internet in the country.
