Over 600,000 SIM Cards Suspended Over KYC Non-Compliance

Botswana Communications & Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) has announced that 609,222 SIM cards have been suspended due to non-compliance with Know-Your-Customer (KYC) registration. 86.16% of all eligible SIM cards have been registered.

Suspended SIM cards can still be registered at respective mobile network operators.

The initial deadline for SIM card KYC registration was 31 March 2024 but had to be extended because of low registrations.

KYC-compliant numbers as of 28 March 2024 stood at 2,137,980 against a total subscriber base of 4,411,589 which translates to 48.46%, meaning that more than half of KYC-eligible SIM cards were not registered.
