Event Tickets Platform Quicket Expanding To Botswana

South African online ticketing platform Quicket is currently expanding to Botswana. Founded in 2011, Quicket provides ticket services for some of SA's largest events like Rocking The Daisies and was recently acquired by Ticketmaster, the world's largest ticketing service.

The push into Botswana is part of continent-wide expansion which will see Quicket also expanding to Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, and Zambia.

Botswana venues, artists, and promoters will benefit from Quicket’s regional expertise and Ticketmaster’s global reach and service. It will also allow them to utilise the expansion of digital technologies, such as secure encrypted mobile tickets, in their ticketing offerings.

“Africa is home to some of the most passionate fans in the world who we have the privilege of connecting to the events they love, simply and securely. Our commitment to delivering top-tier tools for promoters, venues, and artists is unwavering. Partnering with Quicket will supercharge our mission to elevate Africa’s dynamic live events to the global spotlight they truly deserve. Together, we are igniting a new era of unparalleled growth for African entertainment, ” said Mark Yovich, President of Ticketmaster.

In Botswana, Quicket will compete with existing online ticketing services including Webtickets Botswana.

However, Quicket's new parent company Ticketmaster is currently in legal woes in the US after the US Department of Justice filed a suit against the company (and its parent company LiveNation) in May which states that they unlawfully exercised their monopoly power in the live concert ecosystem in violation of competition rules.

The authorities want to force LiveNation to sell Ticketmaster to break the monopoly.

Ticketmaster is also facing scrutiny over its cybersecurity practices after it admitted to "unauthorised activity" on its database last month after a group of hackers posted the personal information of 560 million customers online.
