Botswana Police Service has issued a warning to the public against increasing fraud cases which has seen numerous Batswana being defrauded money into the hundreds of thousands of pulas.
According to law enforcement, victims are tricked into providing their banking deals on the pretext that they have won prizes and the funds are to be deposited into their accounts.
The fraudsters, who claim to work for banks as well as mobile network operators including Orange, Mascom, and BTC, have defrauded victims amounts totalling P700,000, with senior citizens the most likely victims.
The police have thus informed the public to refrain from providing their banking details to any person over the phone.
