According to a press release shared by the ministry of state president, President Mokgweetsi Masisi has appointed Cornelius Dekop as the new governor of Botswana's central bank, Bank of Botswana. Dekop's appointment is with effect from today, 23 October 2023.
Dekop replaces former governor, Moses Pelaelo, who has been at the helm of the bank since October 21, 2016. Dekop is a former chairman of the Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB), and also held directorships in the boards of DEBSWANA and De Beers Group.
He also has been a national cabinet secretary under the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy as well as a secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.
