The construction project of a multi-million Pula data centre by Botswana Fibre Networks (BoFiNet) is in its completion stages. The Digital Delta Data Centre (DDDC) construction project started in March 2021 and is on track to be completed by the end of June this year.
Commissioning of the data centre has started; and the plan is to achieve the final stage of testing during the next three (3) weeks. This entails testing concurrent maintainability of all systems: mechanical, electrical and fire protection systems.
Last week, the project underwent a readiness assessment by Uptime Institute, a world-wide accrediting Board for data centres. The purpose of this exercise was to verify the full functionality of all the different integrated data centre sub-systems.
Digital Delta Data Centre is a Tier III vendor-neutral facility located at Botswana Digital and Innovation Hub in Block 8, Gaborone. The 1,000sqm, 400-rack facility is a critical part of the ICT ecosystem in the country and part of the national strategy to effectively link the country’s priority sectors with regional value chains. It will not only pave the way for the country to take sovereignty of its data; but also facilitate socio-economic transformation.
