Minister of Health Dr Edwin G. Dikoloti has launched the decentralised drug distribution e-lockers, an initiative by FHI360 in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Botswana Post.
In his address Dikoloti remarked that the e-lockers will help improve the lives of many Batswana who will no longer have to endure unnecessary queues at health facilities. He continued to say that this rare development is indeed in line with the spirit and ideals of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number three, which encourages UN member states to come up with initiatives that will improve their people access to health services.
The e-locker solution is an alternative pick-up point for medicine for patients who are on chronic medication. Patients will be able to access their medications 24 hours in a day, giving them flexibility of choosing a time most convenient for them to collect their medication. Currently there are two sites of Gaborone Main Mall and Mogoditshane.
