According to Okavango Diamond Company (ODC) managing director Mmetla Masire, in February, the state-owned rough diamonds dealer sold diamonds worth over P2 billion through their digital platforms.
Speaking at the 2022 Global Expo Botswana, Masire stated that technology and digitization continue to help ODC transform itself in the rough diamonds marketing and selling business by helping it reach all corners of the world, enabling it to do business effectively and efficiently.
"We use technology to mine data, analyse trends, predict the market and be able to reach our buyers easily," Masire said.
Under a 2011 agreement between De Beers and the government of Botswana, Okavango purchases 25% of the nation’s annual production for independent marketing, while the balance is sold through the De Beers’ trading network.
