Originally launched 10 years ago and then rebranded and expanded in 2017, Botswana Languages (BWLingos) is a project which was aimed at preserving Botswana languages and making it easy to learn native languages from all tribes in Botswana.
BWLingos is a fun app for learning Botswana languages through short, simple lessons. It is designed as a learn-as-you-go app. The new app is designed as an aid to teaching the basics of Botswana's languages. It covers Setswana, Kalanga, Sekgalagadi, Subia, Shiyeyi and English. Users can learn how to write, spell and pronounce words.
Some of the apps from the collection like Learn Setswana have been adopted through a partnership with a set of German overseas volunteers based at the Madikwe Rural Development Program in South Africa to develop a German-to-Setswana version.
BWLINGOs is now accessible via 17373 for Orange users. Users can subscribe to the service by sending dbwlingos or wbwlingos or mbwlingos to 17373 for daily, weekly and monthly service respectively. Users will be charged P1 for daily access, P7 for weekly access and P15 for monthly access.
The service is currently available for Orange Botswana users only and will be rolled out to other mobile operators by early next year.
