After the announcement of his purchase of a 9.2% stake in the micro-blogging site on Monday, making him the company's largest shareholder, Elon Musk has been appointed to Twitter's board of directors.
In a tweet yesterday announcing the appointment, Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal mentioned that through conversations with the Tesla and SpaceX founder over recent weeks, it became clear that he would bring much value to the company's board.
He also mentioned that as a passionate believer and critic of Twitter, Elon is exactly what Twitter needs to make it stronger in the long term.
As an avid Twitter user himself mainly through posting memes, Elon has in the past criticized the platform for stifling free speech and even went as far as considering building an all-new platform.
Now that he is now the biggest shareholder of the site which has gotten him in trouble with the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) in the past, it remains to be seen how much influence he will exert in implementing changes to Twitter, like for example, the edit button, which Twitter has now confirmed that it's working on.
